Have you found your dream job and already sent off your application? Then it's time to wait patiently until the potential new employer gets back to you. But what can you do if you simply don't hear back about your application despite waiting a long time?
First of all: no feedback? Don't panic! There is often a harmless reason behind it.
Take another look at your application documents and check the following points:
What else could be the reason?
High number of applicants: If many people have applied for a position, it can happen that even well-organized HR departments can no longer keep up with the number of applications they receive and the process drags on. Vacations or illness can further exacerbate this situation.
Missing qualifications: Your application was rejected due to missing qualifications. Therefore, before you apply, make sure that your profile matches the advertised position. From the employer's point of view, sending rejections to applications that do not match the position is time-consuming and costly. In addition, there is no obligation to reply to applicants - even if a brief rejection would be appropriate from the applicant's point of view.
What can you do now?
The answer is simple: you can ask. As a rule, however, you should give the company at least two to four weeks to review and sort the applications. The smaller the company, the earlier you can make an inquiry.
But be careful! The line between interest and intrusiveness can be extremely thin. Do not contact recruiters by text message or via social networks to ask about the interim status. A short and concise email or a phone call should be your first choice. The advantage of a phone call is that you will receive immediate feedback from your counterpart. Even if you have already waited a long time: Always remain charming and polite.
Avoid asking whether your application has been received. If you have addressed the documents correctly and given the right contact person, this question is unnecessary. Instead, you can ask whether the position has already been filled, what the current status of the application process is or ask to be informed if you are not considered for the position. The important thing to remember here is that the more you push, the more desperate you appear - and that should not be the aim. Instead, use the request to draw attention to yourself once again in a friendly manner and express your interest.
Despite everything, at some point it will be time to look for a new job offer. If your inquiry has no effect, look ahead and keep applying! No feedback does not mean that your application was bad. You should continue to take the initiative to find the right job.
